August 2025 Status Report
🕑 Added 2025-09-01 18:21:52 +0000 UTCAs suspected in the last status report, v27.1 won't be super substantial given the short time to work on it after the bugfixing and rest following v27... of which there has been some more bugfixing that has gone into v27.1. But Val has done a number of assorted side content things for the update, and another tune-up to the Floor 3 puzzle of Adventure Apartments to help make it less likely to confuse or mislead people.
As for why the update is not out yet, basically due to just the Matango CG implementation turning into a bit of a whole thing. There were a few delays with some final touches on it, and also some hiccups with the very old and almost entirely missing original standing art file. Also, said file does show its age a bit and did hamper a bit of things, but with some jury-rigging, I have done what I've done with most of the other Applehead-drawn characters, which is use their face parts to add more expressions. So the Matango will now have 7 new expressions using their existing parts to help add a bit of extra character and variety to their scenes, on top of their art now being properly layered like most other characters. Their CG is now also fully implemented as well into their existing content whereever applicable.
During testing of said CG things, I also realized that the sleep status effects used by the enemies were kind of lacking, so basically all of them got some amount of buff.
As for the rest of what I've been working on for v27.1, that would be preparation for working towards the Aphrodesia District stamp, in the form of getting art set up for a new generic character that's in the district, running a consumables shop. I also plan to add a combat encounter for them in v27.2 to further work towards the district's stamp preparations. All 8 of the new consumables for the shop are now done, though 1 of those is kind of a joke item, and another is an item that applies a bunch of status effects to the player, for fun.
Also, I say generic character, but it's actually a duo who will have names due to the specificity of their designs and use in the district. Also, their art is some of the remaining ones I have from Otani.
So all that's technically left to do for v27.1 is set up the shop itself and any interactions therein, which should be doable by the end of the week, but depending how much else I decide to try and jam into the update, that might be the week after instead.

The game has been and will always be very heavily based in text as per its description on the main page. But there is art being added for certain parts of it and the characters. Is there a particular direction you're asking this question from?

There is currently no new news, as far as I'm aware they are alive tho. It will definitely make things complicated as I'm uncertain if they will be available again. Worst case I will need to get another artist to fill in those gaps, but that will be jank and I would like to avoid it if possible.

Nice putting the Matango art up to date. Also, any news about Otani ? I really like Catherine but adding more art for her or others from him will be complicated without the artist.
