Ever since he first encountered the shoddy Priests trying to heal in their tent after the rift, I've been expecting Valens to give in at some point in the future to the irrepressible academic urge to help train the Priesthood to use their Lifemana more effectively, combine it with basic diagnosis and treatment methods, et cetera... once he reaches the capital, he could even offer to trade such training to the Church for library access or something else he needs for his Trial or to discover the mysteries of this world. If he could argue for even a test week or two to let him prove with a handful of apprentice Priests that he can make them more effective, I imagine the Church would see immense value in him... but that's the catch, aye, and Valens no doubt knows it? He's sniffed out enough of the scent of politics in this world, the fact that even these ineffective Priests can supposedly charge so much money, that even the fact that training Priests (if it even ends up working, with the System's limitations) would PROBABLY cause more people and illnesses to be healed on the whole would also give *outsized power* to the Church, and I'd bet that despite his academic and moral urge to improve healing in general, both the evident and unknown ramifications of such a move would give Valens pause. Not to mention that he's potentially ALREADY proven such a strangely valuable asset that if the Church realizes so and doesn't decide to burn him, there's no way they'd let him out of their grip voluntarily. I'm itching to see how it all unfolds! If he *does* end up training Priests, I'd be especially intrigued to learn if any success Priests have in latching onto his training grants those Priests more skills, skill-levels and experience than they'd normally acquire with their sloppy old skill-only-reliant methods... THAT would be some startling concrete evidence of his effectiveness that would draw the Church's eyes even more greedily.
