🕑 Added 2024-05-16 10:45:29 +0000 UTCIt feels good to be getting back into the swing of things at the desk again, it’s crazy how much a week away from work can throw you off. Anyway, I should have the colours and shading for this page done tomorrow if all goes well!
Also included in this post is the winner of the competition that was being held over on the Humanity Lost Discord server, I love how much thought went into maples design, I’ll include the description here: “Alrighty, heres my submission, doubt ill get much more done than this sketch sheet lol but here we are. This is a creature imported from Jo, the homrworld of the Pekt, which evolved to have a very similar niche to Earth's bobbit worms in which it would lay dormant buried in the sand and snap up at any prey which wanders too close to its lure, eating them and grinding them up. These lads are pretty hefty and big, about maybr 2 to 4 meters give or take depending, and are very common in Pekt cuisine. Here ive illustrated just some examples of how they look strung up and removed from their conical shells (revealing a rather segmented crustacean esque body), and theyre often chopped into slices like steak and served with other subaquatic animals and chemotrophic organisms which may have evolved near hydrothermal vents (as id imagine true plants couldnt evolve in a biosphere with no light from the surface). Also a very tiny detail but i tried to design a bowl shape which, for the pekt, would make it harder for food contents to float out of said bowl, having more of a vase esque shape with a pattern vaguely inspired by their radial eyes”.
Some of the other entries captured my imagination, so I’ll include them as cameos in background shots of upcoming scenes. I’ll credit the artists on the posts where I include their designs. But yes, congratulations Maple, your alien will be appearing in a market stall on janudua station!
