🕑 Added 2023-06-13 12:03:19 +0000 UTCGalji are the most extreme example of total matriarchy that can be seen in the galaxy today. Their civilisation is, metaphorically speaking, a longhouse. The males of their species are diminutive compared to the much larger females, and male Galji are incapable of complex thought, as well as being completely incapable of imagining hypotheticals. The sole purpose of a male is to compete with other males for the attention of a female; yet only 1% of males go on to pass on their genes. Males are used as an expendable workforce by Galji females and are subject to perpetual societal-wide hen-pecking all their lives (which are comparatively short).
Galji civilisation on their homeworld is global, homogeneous and uniform. All distinctions between groups, religions and cultures have been eliminated to achieve ultimate cohesion between all territories. Galji history is shrouded in mystery, it has been altered so much to avoid any offence, disagreements, or division that it may cause to the point that the story they tell themselves has huge holes in it and is most certainly a complete fabrication. Their world-view is thus completely universalist and utilitarian. There is no room in it for particularism, nuance, or exceptions to their universalist beliefs.
This informs Galji culture, or lack of culture I should say. Everything is bland and indistinct, nothing is uniquely Galji in flavour. This, combined with their complete embodiment of Tabula rasa philosophy, is what makes them particularly agreeable with other species of the galaxy, notably, humanity.
Humans and the Galji are extremely close allies, being one another’s first contact. It sounds naive to say when talking about entire space-faring civilisations, but they are what could be called “best-friends”. Their two species are so closely linked now that wherever you see a human in the galaxy, you can bet that a Galji can also be found not too far away.
Another thing of note is that the Galji are carnivorous liquivores, which might come as a surprise to some upon first glance. They feed by injecting their food with enzymes that come out of the tip of their trunk-like proboscis. They then slurp up their meal with the two orifices, which are located on the tip of the very same trunk.

That was my intention to be honest callum helps me make the descriptions more readable because I’m very bad at writing anything, a lotta folk here don’t think they’d get along with them, but I sware they’re chill folk… as long as you’re not a Galji male

Aw thanks Zuccubus! Yeah these are one of Ryan’s first aliens, they’ve been kicking about on the internet for a long while now. I hear you, there’s no doubt it would be effective haha Sometimes I think it’s necessary if you were to create a global government. Really what we are talking about when we say “global government” is inescapable centralised power over the entire planet. If you don’t like it, where are you going to move? The global government would have to be un-democratic in its nature, or if it isn’t, it might as well be because an individual vote would be completely insignificant across so large and populous a territory. No matter what peoples intentions were in forming it, they’d be creating the most unequal power structure ever seen in history. You’d have an absolute minority of executives ruling over an unbelievable amount of workers. Think about how sophisticated the media apparatus would have to be to contain and control such a population. Think again about how that media machine could be used to manipulate the outcome of elections and the behaviours of the masses. It’s truly horrible to imagine such a fate.

Sexual dimorphism is pretty interesting, I've heard male anglerfish are tiny and attach and fuse to females to serve only as a sperm factory. I'm imagining a fictional species were one sex is very active and predatory and the other is a plant or fungi-like organism that serves only for reproduction.

I really love these guys. Stumbled onto some older art of them on Pinterest a while back, love an elephantine alien (and I’m delighted by the detail about their liquid diet lol). I can see why people are getting put off by their society but I think their particular 1984 thing might actually be a good evolutionary trait for a society. Like, just being able to bury a conflict before it escalates is extremely useful when trying to unify a species into a singular spacefaring culture. Not a life I’d want to live but I wouldn’t mind having Galji coworkers lol.

When I first drew them 10 years ago I was like “what if their was a spider that looked like an elephant” so I suppose mission successful, seems like judging by the comments though nobody would want to be friends with on in-universe which is a shame because they’re good folk

They developed this culture to wipe out warfare on their planet, they’re not exactly the most disgusting aliens physically of mine callums drawn, they’re basically vampiric space elephants, they never evolved any sort of romantic love so instead their friendship and familial bonds are just super strong

I do not see how humans could be friends with these things their culture seems terrible and bland, and their physical appearance is absolutely disgusting humans The most I could see between the two species would be a nonaggression pact leading into full-scale war of extermination
