MESSAGE FROM THE FUTURE (ROUGH)
🕑 Added 2025-05-19 06:04:25 +0000 UTCi am allowed to make a comic about current events every once in a while. this was mostly inspired by a squee comic in which a grown-up squee from the future goes back to the 90s to deliver a message to child squee. he forgets the message due to the effects of time travel, and subsequently succumbs to brain explosion syndrome. in case it wasn't obvious by now, i really liked jhonen vasquez comics when i was in high school
as usual, i tried to keep this comic as simple as possible, but i just couldn't compromise on the walls of text which require careful consideration in regards to composition. also added the final panel fairly late in the process bc i felt that the pose really sold it. i should draw wacky faces and poses more. i suppose this ended up becoming a "sunday" strip. as of writing, it's still sunday for people on the west coast. and yes, future TY is wearing a brat summer shirt. the implication being that he has not added any new clothes to his wardrobe since the summer of 2024. this is what writers call "worldbuilding"

After all these years, that comic gave me involuntary giggles every time I hear the term “crisis averted.” Well played, Mr. Vasquez!

Laughing through the tears is a Jhonen Vasquez specialty. I remember one of the comics of his Johnny character, having a deeply somber meditation on mental illness, nihilism and self-harm…only for it to be upended by his delight at “that tv commercial where the whole family gets diarrhea!” :p
