We made it across the Tehuantepec!
🕑 Added 2025-12-19 20:24:54 +0000 UTCWe actually had a great weather-window right after my last post, having waited for a few days in the anchorage. We experienced almost a flat calm the whole way across - we are so bored of motoring, but in this case we were glad not to have the extreme Tehuantepac winds! During the 2 day crossing I saw more Sea Turtles than ever before - we probably passed 200, and had to swerve to avoid a few of them. We arrived in the night, which is not ideal timing in an unknown port, but is sometimes necessary. We slowly made our way through the unlit channel with the help of our bright spotlight, and then after we arrived we were promptly boarded by port officials and some military chaps with a large dog! After a little friendly banter, documents were stamped, and we finally were able to get some sleep.

A short explanation of the lines on the 'TimeZero' screen would be interesting for us who don't navigate by radar or lighthouse blinking.

Talk about so many turtles, a few years back, I sailed east out of Charleston, South Carolina and we went thru a large group of hammer head sharks. I kid you not, as far as I could see, left, right and ahead were sharks. Simply amazing! All these years I listen how we are over harvesting our oceans I never believed that I could witness such a sight. Had to share… :)

Did you make landfall in Puerto Chiapas? I arrived there at night also, which is probably typical of making the Tehuantepec crossing given the length of the passage. The channel into the back bay where the marina is was not at all well marked and we ran aground in the dark. Luckily the marina personnel were very friendly and, although we got ourselves off the shoal, we were very appreciative of their escort into our slip.
