Early Access: The Making of LEGO Island (1997) - A Documentary
🕑 Added 2024-12-30 21:37:44 +0000 UTCI'm not beating the "LEGO Island guy" allegations with this one, am I...
This represents either the last 5 months or the last 3 years depending on how you look at it. I've been slowly collecting interviews and footage with the intention of making a documentary since late 2021/early 2022, but only around July 2024 did I feel like I had enough to actually start putting something together. At the time, I thought it would only take a few months to weave everything together, but instead, it ended up taking the entire rest of the year (trying to juggle other upcoming projects with it probably didn't help). Even now, there are still a handful of shots and voice over segments I'm still waiting for, but I figured the content itself will likely not change much more, so you guys could get a sneak peek in its only-mostly-complete state.
To temper your expectations, this is not a video about the decompilation, nor is it really a video about programming at all. Instead, it's a fairly general documentary telling the making-of story of this game. Coincidentally, the decomp hit 100%-implemented around the same time as I reached the end of this, which in some ways is nice, but also if you're expecting a deep dive into the code you'll likely be disappointed (I should be putting something like that together early next year instead).
Regardless, I hope you enjoy and have a happy new year!

I enjoyed your videos about fixing the win95 apps and the lego island code / this documentary so much that the least I could do is join as a member. Thanks!

Loved this documentary! I really enjoyed lego island as a kid and as a software developer now, it was great (and also a bit sad) to see what happened behind the scenes.

Amazing documentary! I think it's so wrong that it got demonetized so I wanted to support your channel. Cheers!

Really well put together, and great that you got to speak with so many people involved. Wasn't prepared for the left-field jump from Lego Island to BigFix.

This is excellent and really helps someone like me, who was a bit "old" for Lego when Lego Island came out. Also didn't know that the lego brand was struggling back t hen.
