Progress on Burnout 3 - Geometry in the garage
🕑 Added 2023-04-05 01:26:23 +0000 UTCI mentioned in last week's post that I've been working on trying to make a PC port of Burnout 3 using Cxbx-Reloaded as a base. Currently, essentially no 3D geometry renders correctly in Cxbx, the garage only appearing as a black screen and nothing else. But, while I don't think you could call this fully "correct", after researching a lot over the last few months, I've finally managed to get some geometry to show!
I'll be writing up further details on my development blog on my forums, but I thought I'd show you guys first!

No in-game yet unfortunately, but I feel like I'm super close now that I know how to get this working

does it go to a race or is it still stuck?

Cxbx has already done a lot of the work for me; they've already set up the XBE loading and patched a ton of the necessary Xbox APIs themselves. What that means is I can focus on the parts that don't work, and hopefully get a working game a lot faster. Over time it'll probably move off Cxbx as more of the game gets injected/decompiled and can stand on its own, but having a working game from the get-go will make any further mods/injections easier to develop and test.

I'm flattered, hopefully it doesn't take too long!

I have no idea how it works, but I am quite amazed. I love Revenge and Paradise, but never did play 3. Think I will save it for when this project is nearly done :)

that's a wild thing to do casually. how does cxbx make it easier?

If everything goes right, yes! I'm a Linux user myself, so Linux compatibility is definitely a priority for me, at least through Wine/Proton if not eventually native.

Nice TRI! While it doesn't look quite NORMAL yet, it is definitely CULLorful.

Will this be able to run on Steam Deck?
