Jasun Horsley on Stanley Kubrick and Artificial Intelligence
🕑 Added 2023-02-14 23:13:14 +0000 UTCWe talk with Jasun Horsley about his new book, The Kubrickon: The Cult of Kubrick, Attention Capture, & the Inception of AI. Jasun contends that Kubrick was not really making movies at all, but rather scientific experiments designed to capture our awareness and give rise to artificial intelligence. We get into Eyes Wide Shut, The Shining, and other Kubrick films. Other discussion topics include the moon landing question, the demonic nature of celebrity, the mother-bonded psyche, and the relationship between Satan and matter.

Do you have an email? Your show triggers so many other references from books and biographies I’ve read and dovetails into the music industry quite a bit.

Hi guys, love your show. So many things run through my mind when listening. I have so many comments I need to start writing them down. 1)Have either of you read any Laurence A. Rickels? I think he would be up your alley albeit from a slightly different angle. 2) The Method and Marlon Brando. The musician Scott Walker has a song titled ‘Brando’. Walker said it’s hard not to notice Marlon got beat to a pulp in so many of his roles. Almost like it was in his contract. https://genius.com/Scott-walker-sunn-o-brando-lyrics Copy and pasted this story I remembered. A funny story purports that, while working on Marathon Man, Dustin Hoffman (a method actor) stayed up for three full days to play a sleep-deprived character. Upon learning of this, Olivier is said to have responded, "My dear boy, why don't you just try acting?".
