Join the flock as we take flight in the Virtual World! This race of feathery friends are amazing at running long distances or soaring through worlds with ease.
Although not a taur in the traditional sense, their unique posture and biology places them in the same coop as our four legged brethren.
This base would have just been a feather in the wind without the owl-standing support of Orion-B. This project was amazing to work on and I'm ruffling my feathers in excitement to see the community flock together in such a unique form!

This avatar includes many types of features and options that you may recognize and many you may have never seen before. Everything included is hand-pecked from the ground up specifically for this model. This package includes everything you need to spread your wings and strut your stuff in VRChat!

AvianTAUR Creator PackKey Features:

- Custom Locomotion System - All animation sets have been carefully preened for the best appearance and include toggle-able grounders for the feet.
- 12 Poses and Animations - Roost, Lay, Sleep, or even do the Chicken Dance.
- Talon-ted Feet Controls - These feet can do so much more than wark! With Full Body Tracking, the toes will automatically curl based on angle, or use the gesture combo (Thumbs Up > Fist > Open Hand) to control them directly with your own hands! While in this mode, you can even snatch other physbones with your feet!
- Camera Controls - Eagle eye the ducklings with a Rear View Mirror and a built in 3rd Person Camera (Desktop Mode Only).
- First Person - Never miss a beak, see it in first person! There are also in game adjustments for position and scale.
- Face Tracking - This avatar is configured with Unified Expressions, and is compatible with Adjerry's face tracking templates (More Information Here: https://github.com/Adjerry91/VRCFaceTracking-Templates ). If you're a streamer, map the unified expression to ARKit and you're good to go!
- Shake a Wing Feather! - By default the wings will animate based on where you are looking, but open both hands and you can puppet them directly! Also, you can grip your left fist to flap manually.
- Dynamic Flight System - Take flight at any time by running forward, looking up, and jumping. This avatar has a fully animated flight system, flap sounds, and glide trails. When you're ready to land, simply look down and get close enough to the ground and you'll come to a graceful perch.
- Passengers Welcome - This avian comes equipped with one dynamic seat, please remember that your seat will remain upright and can be adjusted by the pilot at any time.
- MMD Compatible - Shake a tailfeather in the various MMD worlds with the Japanese named facial blendshapes. Despite our odd proportions, everything still works great in these dances!
- Two or Three Fingers - You choose!
- Lightning Bird? - Yep, lightning bird.
- Custom Sit Poses - How does a taur like this sit in a chair? You decide!
- Standard Avatar Features Included - Face Expressions, Gestures, Puppets, Breast Slider, Belly Slider, Wing Size, Disable Locomotion, ect. It's all in there.
- Chirp Sounds - Tweet your heart out with a large selection of sound effects! You can activate these by making a Peace Sign with your Left Hand and a Fist with your Right Hand.

Inside this bird there's quite a lot going on! For starters we have a ghostly HOOMAN floating around inside. Yep, there's an invisible set of human legs perched on the front hips and soaring around inside there somewhere. We are then using a combination of physbones, constraints, IK, and animations to keep the lower body and legs moving correctly.
For animation layers, we are utilizing Direct Blend Trees as much as possible, allowing us to control everything on this avatar with only 14 animation layers!
At the base of it, all platforms treat this avatar as a completely normal humanoid. As such, it is compatible with most addons and features you can pick up online. Below is a list of known compatibilities and incompatibilities.
- Most VRCFury Scripts will work, unless they modify the Locomotion, Sitting, or Action layers.
- GoGoLoco is NOT compatible with this avatar. We've done our best to include our own version of the most important features.
- Face Tracking prefabs will work! This avatar uses the Unified Expression list. (More Information Here: https://docs.vrcft.io/docs/tutorial-avatars/tutorial-avatars-extras/unified-blendshapes )
VSeeFace Ready!
This birb is fully equipped with face tracking blendshapes, so we might as well use them!
For the moment, we do not have a prefab configured for this yet, but if you would like to wing it yourself, take a look at these instructions from VSeeFace https://www.vseeface.icu/ . AvianTAUR - How to BirbBelow is a set of text instructions as well.
Follow these instructions from VRChat on how to setup a new project via the Creator Companion.

Download the Final IK Stub from VRLabs. (If you have already purchased Final IK, skip this step.)
Download the Poiyomi shader. (Optional, but you will need to configure you own shaders later.)
Download VRCFury (REQUIRED)

Drag the "Poiyomi" unitypackage into unity and click import.
Drag the "Final IK Stub" unitypackage into unity and click import.
Drag the "AvianTAUR" unitypackage into unity and click import.
If you have any other unitypackage files from me, import those now.
Navigate to "Assets\AvianTAUR\Base\EXAMPLES\SCENES START HERE\AvianTAUR 000" and open that scene by double clicking it.
Inside are Pre-Built Examples that you can start customizing right away.
Now to enter your license key into the project. In the Hierarchy, navigate to "AvianTAUR > AvianTAUR > LICENSE_KEY_ENTRY > XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX". Here you will find a "VRC Contact Sender" with a Custom Collision Tag. Replace the Xs with your license key.
At the top, select "VRChat SDK > Show Control Panel" and then login.
Click on the "Builder" tab.
Enter a name for your birb, take a quick pic, agree to the terms, and click "Upload"
Note: If you are using the "Final IK Stub" from VRLabs and not the full package, the AvaTAUR will not preview well in unity. You will need to upload in order to see it actually moving correctly.
If you would like to use Face Tracking on this model, we recommend the Adjerry Face Tracking Template ( https://github.com/Adjerry91/VRCFaceTracking-Templates ). Follow the instructions on their page and use the "Unified Expressions" template.
Once you've feathered your own custom textures, we suggest the following.
Make a new folder under "Assets" with your character's name.
Import your textures into this folder.
Navigate to "Assets\AvianTAUR\Base\EXAMPLES\DEFAULT\Materials".
Duplicate all of these materials.
Move the duplicate materials to your custom character folder.
Apply these materials to the character in the example scene.
Edit the materials with the new textures or choose a different shader.
In the scene, the "Body" object has a drop down for "Blendshapes" in here you will find a list of all blendshapes for this avatar. Everything under "CUSTOM" can be safely modified.
If you would like to use the built in accessory toggles, place the Skinned Mesh Renderer of the object into "AvianTAUR > ACCESSORIES" and it will automatically be toggle-able in game.
What the Flock is this Error?
VRChat and Unity display a lot of errors that you can just let fly.
If you get any yellow warnings in the console log, you can ignore them.
"Audio Sources found on Avatar, they will be adjusted to safe limits, if necessary" - All custom audio sources are within the limits already and should have no issues.
"Stations found on Avatar, they will be adjusted to safe limits, if necessary" - Once again, don't worry, we're flying within the limits.
"The angle between pelvis and thigh bones should be close to 180 degrees" - This has to do with how the hip bones are setup, we've seen this error for a long time with no noticeable issues.
"This avatar uses write defaults on" - Yes, we have to have write defaults on to be compatible with MMD, if this changes, we may release an update that converts everything to Write Defaults Off, but until then, ignore this chirp.
