about the love people have for Luan is kind of what happens when you see "youtuber react to *insert a brazilian media here*", so it gets flooded with comments and stuff, as any latino person in a very american industry such as skateboarding, the fact that he was the only relevant brazilian skater in the main contests for a while(sls 2014-2016) and he really had a successful career at that time and with all that he still kept living in Brasil, his skateshop promotes and used to make some of the main contests and events in Brasil, etc. he really did a lot for the scene here and people look at that almost more than they look at the skating aspect of him as a pro. another thing about his skating being outdated, Brasil is a very poor country with not a lot of internet access(till recent years) and very few people speak english so trends take a while to arrive, I think for a lot of people his type of skating is cool as fuck as it was when compared to other contest skaters 10 years ago. Most of the brazilians who are still on par with modern skating are either privileged for our standards or live outside Brasil, such as Tiago, Fortunato, Carlos, etc

I think that’s how they started, I remember seeing a ton of Instagram ads from them as a lifestyle shoe before they started the skate program. Wonder if Berra saw an opportunity and pitched having a team.

I would like to add, I listen to a movie podcast on the Ringer Network & they sometimes run cariuma ads. It’s marketed as a daily lifestyle shoe that’s meant for everyday-wear for anyone/everyone. They’ll sell shoes to whatever market

I continue to buy and wear them even though I think Cariuma's business strategy is wack. They fit and perform well. I like the look and the design. I just have to find a skateshop that has Last Resort VM003s in stock in size 11.5 since the 12 i bought was way too big for me. The shoe is basically the same as the Catiba but without the huge logo which i'm still not a big fan of. I just need to try them on locally to make sure they fit though since i'm picky with fit but there's none in my area unfortunately.

I’m glad you said that you liked the look of cariumas when you first saw them because I was exactly the same, I nearly bought some just based off the fact that it said they were vegan, my knowledge of the inner workings of skateboarding is limited but when I found out more about them I was glad I hadn’t bought them. I feel like a lot of people just saw you and other YouTubers talk shit about the company and were automatically like “EEWWWW YEAH THATS THE MOST DISGUSTING SHOE IVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE”

One thing I do really like that adidas is doing is taking their more unique silhouettes and turning them into skate shoes. The pro model/ADV versions of the superstars and forums look really cool. Even though they still have the 3 stripe I think they work the design of it into the overall shoe really well. Kaders purple superstar is definitely something unique and interesting even if it is something most people aren’t able to pull off; it’s cool to see them take a risk by trusting kader. The Stan smith also looks and feels good to skate in even though it’s not a skate shoe and Vincent makes it look good imo. Nora also had a nice slip on colorway a few years ago where they incorporated some of her art into the inside of the shoe. They definitely should’ve gone more of that route with her pro model.
