Hey Jody, the reason why the line was long is cause Carmy set up that video game tournament. Also, in the book was Carmy's award for the best up and coming chef award. That's why Sydney wanted to work there - cause he has a reputation of being an elite 3-star chef at restaurants around the world and wants to learn under him.
