Particles
🕑 Added 2017-02-04 22:16:34 +0000 UTC It's great being able to use 3ds Max like this, but I aim to continiously improve and learn new techniques. During the creation of Revitalizing Touch, I desired some kind of method to generate a high number of objects. But I wasn't going to place them manually, that would've taken ages and probably looked mediocre. So I decided to look into using the particle system in 3ds Max. And to my surprise, it's quite extensive. In the example above, there are a handful of particles being launched upwards and influenced by several Forces, making them act like they are now. What's perfect for this particular scene, is Gravity with the sphere option, making them effectively orbit around a target object. Because in the story, that's basically what the light orbs did with Aoria, the elf.
Of course the applications of the particle system go way beyond this, but I feel it's an important step nonetheless. I'll definitely aim to use this for future scenes. Whether that's water drops or even a swirl of dark magic surrounding a dark elf.
