Big News! (and suspending October billing)
🕑 Added 2022-09-30 16:49:10 +0000 UTCHi kiddos! I wanted to let you know that I'm suspending billing for October because I know for certain I'm not going to have a chance to write much next month. Why, you might ask?
I got an apartment! If you've been following along with the ongoing slapstick comedy that is my life for a while, then you know that last year I moved to Seattle and was staying with my oldest friend. The intention was to be moved out by spring of this year. But then I shattered my foot and had to have reconstructive surgery.
That put me out of work for more than two months, and put me $6500 further in debt (that was just my out of pocket medical bills, the surgery was like $40,000 in total... thank goodness I had JUST gotten my health insurance through work). The financial hole I fell into from missing two months worth of work and adding all that debt meant that I've spent pretty much all of 2022 chasing my tail trying to get my finances back to a good place again. And now I am FINALLY ready to move out on my own.
So, I signed my lease yesterday for an absolutely adorable little studio flat that is just SIX BLOCKS from my job! I'll be able to take a leisurely 8 minute stroll to and from work every day, and I will be living in the heart of Seattle's University District, one of the coolest parts of the city! Even more exciting, my move-in date is in just a week and a half from today!
The downside to this flurry of activity is that I'm going to need to spend the next week packing, then I'm going to have to wait until after our critical October 15th deadline at work before I can really start unpacking. That's why I'm suspending billing for the month (as always, if I do manage to squeeze in any writing time over this next month, I'll share it with you guys regardless).
This is all very exciting and kind of terrifying for me, because never in my life have I lived alone. But I honestly do feel like this big, huge, scary step is just another key moment in the awesome journey my life is on right now. And I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you guys and your ongoing support, encouragement and faith in me. That has meant everything and has been one of the very few things that has remained consistent and stable in my turbulent life, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I'm honestly happier than I've ever been in my life, and my community of friends and supporters has been a major cornerstone of that.
