One Hot Summer 03 (Option #03)

I dove beneath the water surface and looked up to eye the steps. A few strokes in, I was swimming into the shallow end. A few more, I was at the stairs. I held the rail and took the first step toward abandoning my best friend and the game her sister wanted to play with us. It wasn't for me.
With a deep breath, I started my short walk up to poolside, where I was most comfortable. Had I always to have a moment with Samantha? Of course. Have I fantasized about having the courage to seduce my best friend and tell Cassie every dirty little thing I want to do to her? Yes. But, like this moment had proved, I never had the courage or confidence to follow through.
"Hey, are you leaving?" Cassie asked when she abandoned her sister in the middle of the pool and swam toward the side.
"I'm just...not crazy about this situation. Your sister, she...nevermind."
"Gabi, please stay."
With my towel cradled under one arm, while my other hand held my water bottle, I shook my head and walked away in silence. I could hear Cassie yelling at Samantha. She accused her sister of running her day, and mine. I don't think either of them were responsible for ruining my day. I simply decided that this wasn't for me.
What could've happened if I stayed? What if I told Samantha to fuck off and give me some time alone with Cassie? I don't know the answer. Simply put, I don't think it was meant to be.
Sometimes you need to know yourself well enough to know when it is time to walk away.

I wrote this one first, because I knew it would be the easiest one to write. Do we regret a chance not taken and wonder what could've been? Absolutely. I have a few of those myself; more than a few, probably. In this case, Gabriella decided that this wasn't for her. Whether fooling around with Samantha or Cassie, it just wasn't her thing.
