Confronting A Bully (Short Story)
🕑 Added 2022-03-30 04:42:44 +0000 UTC
The sun shined high in the sky on that spring afternoon. The coolness of winter still lingered in the air, but chirping birds declared spring was here and summer was soon to come. Maybe the warmer weather might brighten her soul.
Ariella and her older sister Leana walked around the three-story building they now called ‘home’. It took some convincing to get her outside for the first time in several days. Ariella had her face buried in a book, while she listened to the low rumble of her fish-tank’s motor. Getting her off that bed, showered, and in some nice athletic apparel was a group effort, with her mother Jezebel sharing the duty.
Leana didn’t mind, because she planned to go out anyhow. She’d do anything to put a smile on her little sister’s face. A smile never came. Instead, a melancholic sorrow washed over Ariella even under the daytime sun. The question of ‘why’ replayed in her mind as it so often had in the past few months. Why did he do it? Why did Dad end his life? Why wasn’t he happy?
Ariella looked up at a row of trees along the manicured lawn. She watched the branches sway in the gentle breeze. Birds flew from branch to branch. The clouds above drifted slowly across the blue sky. Anything to distract herself from the harshness of her reality. Maybe suicide was…
“Aren’t you glad you came out, now?” Leana asked cheerfully.
Ariella turned her head a bit. Her older sister stood there with a smile. How could she smile? Life just wasn’t the same, anymore. Death crept into their family and it lingered, taunting Ariella daily. Should she try to join her father? Was life even worth living anymore? The beautiful young Latina questioned her own existence, unable to see her worth because she felt she had none.
A sudden chill crawled down her spine. Ice hit every nerve receptor, spreading like raindrops on a windshield. Her gaze dropped to her feet again. No more spring. No more warmth from the sun. Ariella shivered as if she walked out into a snowstorm under-dressed. No amount of clothing could warm the blizzard in her heart.
“Come on, smile,” Leana nudged her sister. “It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, it’s nice,” Ariella said, looking up just enough to see the stretch of sidewalk ahead.
“Nice?” Leana said with excitement. “No, it’s a beautiful day. The sun’s out. Birds are chirping—”
“A little cold, though.”
She watched her sister’s excited expression drop. It was true, at least for Ariella. It felt cold. She shivered. Did Leana not feel that? The younger sister glanced back at their building, wondering if it was too late to run home. No, she couldn’t abandon Leana. The only reason she left the house was to make her happy. But, it seemed her foul mood began to spread. Only for a moment, however, before her sister’s smile returned.
Leana jogged into a grassy expanse. A large sugar maple tree provided shade fifteen feet in front of the community center. She sat down beside the thick roots sprouting from the bottom of the trunk. Multi-colored leaves left over from fall, faded and weathered, gathered about the base. Seemed like a cozy spot, Ariella thought. A good spot for reading a book.
“Ariella, this would be a great place to take your e-reader.”
She was right, and it already occurred to the eighteen-year old. Ariella considered the shady spot for a moment. No glare from the sun. Birds perched on the branches above. Quiet. Peaceful. She surveyed the surrounding area. Not too far from their apartment in Building 2. The community center, in which people were coming and going, looked nice. Was there a gym? Were there treadmills?
“Do you know if there’s a gym in there?” Ariella asked her sister, who sat against the tree.
If so, she’d love to jump on a treadmill. A little music playing on her headphones or listening to an audio book. Walking along a path made from the photos of real locations. She loved that back home. Not this home, but their real home. Dad took her to the gym every week after she graduated high school. Treadmills were her favorite, but she never did get the chance to try an elliptical machine. Maybe she’d try that.
She thought exercising would get her mind off of things; sad things. What better way to deal with the problems in her head than releasing some endorphins? Ariella headed for the entrance, which led to a very modern chic lobby, which hopefully led to an expansive gym with loads of equipment.
“Mira, esperar!” Leana called out. She got to her feet, but it was too late. “Arie…”
She heard her sister calling, but Ariella chose not to listen. Exercise was one of the few things she took pleasure in. Her sister wanted her to be happy, didn’t she?
In the lobby, Ariella witnessed something she had never seen before. A woman lounged in a chaise, while another woman laid beside her. They were kissing. More than that. They were…touching each other. Ariella blushed and tried not to notice, but something about the scene called to her, demanding her attention.
“Ariella, what are you doing?”
“Finding…the…exercise place,” Ariella stammered. Was Leana seeing this? What if the women started taking their clothes off? What if they…? Is it allowed here, in public?
“Come on, Arie, I see the gym,” Leana said. “Over here.”
Ariella was able to remove her eyes and see that her sister down a hallway past the help desk. She followed, but the sight of two women kissing and groping each other hadn’t gone away. And then seeing these women…Girls in sports bras, loose tank tops, curve-hugging yoga pants, and short shorts. Ariella had never thought about girls being with girls romantically. Something about seeing those two in the lobby, how passionate they were with each other, struck something within her.
I came in here to exercise, she told herself. She could join the trio practicing yoga or get on the only stationary bike not being used. An elliptical machine, she’s always wanted to try one of those. With her white sneakers, gray capri sweatpants, and white crop top, she was more into taking a jog; a treadmill perhaps. As luck would have it, one treadmill was free.
Someone left a towel on it, she noticed. An unused towel by the look of it. Since it seemed nobody was using it, Ariella decided the towel was hers now. Afterward she’d toss it in the towel bin; which was somewhere near the counter no doubt. She flipped the switch and to her delight, this treadmill had the map system she wanted. Today, she’d be running down a three-mile path in Spain. With the fans on, it would feel like she were running out—
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
Ariella was taken completely off-guard. She turned her head, but before she could see the source of the yelling, she was shoved off the machine. Why? Who would do that? Nobody was using the machine.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think—”
“Apparently you didn’t,” said a noticeably large-breasted stout girl about her age. “Move along, now.”
Ariella watched the angry girl step onto her machine. She hadn’t come this far to be pushed around.
“I was using that,” Ariella tried to protest.
The bully extended her hand, and her middle finger, which told Ariella to fuck off. Where was Leana? Her sister walked into the gym flanked by the two girls that were making out in the lobby. It was time to show Leana she could handle things herself.
“What the fuck are you going to do about it?” The angry girl asked after Ariella reached for the console. “Yeah, move along.”
“I’m taking…this,” Ariella pulled the key which ran the machine.
“Bitch,” the bully stepped off of the machine, forcing Ariella to take several steps back. “Give me the key or I swear...”
“Shay! What the fuck?” Her older sister Nikki walked in on the tense situation.
“She stole my machine while I was grabbing a water. Then, she takes the fucking key.”
“I was using this machine,” Ariella tried to argue.
“While I was getting water. Yeah. So, give me the key—”
“No. This is the only treadmill not being used.”
“It is being used…by me, you little bitch.”
“Ariella, just do something else,” Leana said, hoping to diffuse the situation. “There’s an elliptical—”
“I want to use a treadmill. The other ones are being used.”
“This one is being used, too,” Shay said. “Now give me…”
The pair shared a fierce glare, neither wanted to back down. Finally, Ariella threw the key at Shay’s face. She started walking past her toward the elliptical, but Shay grabbed the girl by her hair and pulled her back.
“Stop,” Leana tried to intervene, but the new friend she met in the lobby, Nikki, stopped her. It seemed clear this bully was about to beat her sister down. As clear as it was that nobody would step in to help.
“There’s a way to settle this without someone getting killed,” Talia, the girl that moments ago had been fooling around with Nikki on the chaise, informed the group. “Ariella, right? And Shay. Have you seen the room over there? It’s meant for settling disagreements, according to the sign on the door.”
Shay still held her by the hair, but Ariella was glad there would be another way to settle their issue without getting beaten up. Together, the group traveled over to the room. Inside were a row of black metal folding chairs surrounding a series of blue gym mats. Nothing else. How were problems solved in here?
* * *
Ariella watched Shay sit to untie her sneakers. The rules, as stated by her sister and Nikki, required anyone stepping on the mat to do so barefoot. Because they might dirty the mat? They might ruin or tear it? Or was it just out of respect? She didn’t know. Regardless, Shay was following the rules, so Ariella knew it would only be right if she did, too.
The last knot was untied. Her sneakers came off, but did she really need to take her socks off, too? Cute white ankle socks with frilly pink lace lining the edge. As long as Leana watched her stuff—
“Aahhh!” Ariella screamed when Shay grabbed her by the hair and pulled her such force as she hadn’t felt before.
“You picked the wrong bitch to fuck with today,” Shay warned.
Before Ariella could regain her wits, she was struck with a stinging slap across her face. This was a fight. A real fight. Ariella had never been in a fight, before. An argument, sure, but never anything physical. If she didn’t do something soon, she could end up on the wrong end of a serious beat down.
“Open hand only,” Nikki reminded her sister. “No punching or kicking.”
“What about slapping and hair-pulling?”
“Nothing that can cause serious damage, is what I believe the rules imply.”
“So…” Shay waited for confirmation.
“Slapping, hair-pulling, groping, that’s all fine,” Nikki confirmed. “We’re not trying to kill each other, here.”
Those rules weren’t what worried Ariella. It was that last part, about how these fights were meant to end. Whoever created this female-only community had something in mind…something unthinkable for the virgin Latina.
Regardless, the brief exchange gave Ariella a chance to strike. While she hadn’t made it to her feet yet, being attacked while sitting to remove her shoes and socks, Ariella knew her odds of winning would go up if she brought her bigger opponent down.
“Go Arie!” Leana cheered.
She wrapped her arms around Shay’s legs and wrestled her to the mat. Not knowing how to proceed caused Ariella to remain idle too long. What else could she do? She remembered what her sister said about how to win. That damn rule. That damn disgusting rule…
Slap. Smack. Slap, slap. Shay knew a lot more about what she wanted to do than Ariella did. The beautiful young Latina held on tightly to her opponent’s legs, but she did little else. If she didn’t think of something, and act quickly, she would no doubt suffer another series of slaps to the head and face. At last, Ariella knew she could work her way higher on Shay’s body and pin her shoulders down. Then, she would…what?
If Ariella wanted to win, she would need to make her opponent…orgasm. She hadn’t so much as masturbated, she knew nothing about how to make someone orgasm. Sex, that’s all she knew about it. Ariella would have to have sex with Shay. A room for settling disagreements and all disagreements ending with sex. A feud could almost never survive this sort of activity.
Ariella knew what she wanted to do. She postured up and fully mounted the feisty Italian. Her legs straddled Shay’s abdomen. Slap her, Ariella told herself. Slap her hard. Go. Do it! Hesitation allowed Shay to shove Ariella aside. It was then the girl realized she had never struck someone before. This was her first fight, ever. Fear gripped her. Her foe felt no fear.
Shay made her way up to her feet. A handful of Ariella’s brown hair. Slapping and smacking her face red. Shay stopped a moment to shake her hand out, obviously feeling the pain of each flesh-on-flesh blow. Ariella told herself she needed to rally back. Something hit her. A flash. Then sudden blackness. Cool textured foam caressed her cheek. Her face was on the mat.
The assault had ceased. Yelling. An argument. An apology. Was that Leana’s voice?
“It wasn’t intentional!” Shay yelled. “I was caught up in the moment!”
“Leana, just let them finish this,” Nikki said.
“She’s not even conscious,” Leana said. “We should stop this, now.”
“I’m with Leana. She doesn’t look good.”
“Fuck you, Talia! You want to come take her place?”
“Just finish it without causing anymore damage,” Nikki suggested. “You went too far.”
Ariella heard them talking around her. All she could see was the various shades of blue from her right eye, where her face rested on the mat. From her left eye she could see figures from the knees down. Someone was kneeling, trying to see her eyes. It wasn’t her sister. Thin figure. Long dark hair. Striking brown eyes. She was with Shay and her sister Nikki. Talia, Ariella remembered. Shay screamed her name just a second ago.
Ariella’s world changed when she felt someone roll her onto her back. Hands pulled at her shirt. Ariella was beginning to regain her wits. She could’ve stopped it, but her will was broken. Her shirt was removed, but a blue bra with a decorative Aztec-inspired design shielded her bare breasts. Fingers pulled at her gray capris. The innocent young lady was being stripped naked, as per the rules of the fight she agreed to.
How many people were watching this? Was it just her sister and Shay’s sisters? How about the women that were riding the exercise bikes? Or the girl about her age on the other treadmill? The attendant, too. Were they all watching Shay strip her naked?
“Whoa, she’s got life,” Nikki commented.
Ariella had shoved Shay away with her legs. It was too late to save her sweatpants, but it didn’t feel so bad standing there in her bra and panties. She could still turn this fight around.
Shay was stunned for a moment, but she made it back to her feet. The two young ladies stood toe-to-toe. Ariella looked angry for the first time. She grabbed Shay’s hair and slapped her across the face as hard as she could muster. For the first time in this fight, Ariella thought she might win. Until Shay grabbed her and whipped her down on the mat with familiar force.
Once again, her back was on the ground as she tried to fight off Shay’s assault. The raven-haired bruiser held Ariella down, making use of her weight advantage. Ariella held a hand against Shay’s left thigh to prevent her from getting a better position. Nothing prepared the girl for having a hand shoved down her panties.
“Oh my go…” Ariella hadn’t felt such a sensation before. Her head swam as Shay’s fingertips grazed her clitoris. Her muscles froze up. Joints were immobile. Her defense disappeared entirely. Shay’s fingers felt for the latina’s opening. Ariella laid back in shock as she was being fucked for the very first time. And this young woman, eighteen or nineteen, with a strong, soft, curvy body was the first to penetrate her. It felt good. It felt awful. Emotions Ariella never realized she had began to flood her.
“Ohhhh…uuhhhh…” her words were nothing but grunts and moans. While her eyes made note of the fact that she wasn’t wearing her panties anymore, and that Shay pumped her vagina with such ferocity, her body wouldn’t allow her to do anything except take this punishment; this pleasure. The untold pleasure Ariella had never known.
“Fucking cum already and this is over.” Shay demanded impatiently.
“C-cum?” Ariella stammered from another world in her head. “What is…”
Boom. More of a splash. Something hit Ariella harder than even Shay could. She felt a liquid release from between her legs. It was the pinnacle of her pleasure high. Her sex expelled all of her troubles, but only for a moment, and it felt incredible.
“Alright, I won. I’m using that treadmill. Understood?”
Ariella smiled goofily, her eyes half shut, “yeah. Have the treadmill. Ohhh that felt so…mmmm.”
“Arie,” Leana’s voice broke into her euphoric high. “Come on, let’s get out of here…when you can.”
There it was, Leana finally realized. That smile. An afterglow kind of silly smile, but still it was a smile. For the first time that she could remember, Ariella seemed happy. They’d need to ice her face when they got home, but still…
