I was only there for a few months in 2011, at Camp Schwab. So outside of snorkeling regularly and the locals on the weekends, I really didn't get to interact with much of the island. Although I do remember them not being too thrilled to be considered Japanese, they liked to be referred to as Okinawans.

Okinawa also used to be a completely separate culture from Japan! We haven't spent much time there yet, but maybe we'll make a video at some point

One of these days I will get to go to japan. At least the mainland. I have been to okinawa before, but I did not get to experience all of the local culture.
