Boring answer to why a Moon Man logo: When the station started, they were going into uncharted, new territory. So like when explorers -and astronauts really are explorers of a new place - found new places, they planted a flag, they were riffing on the idea of the first landing on the moon with Apollo 11, but instead of a US Flag, they put their MTV logo flag. So basically; they were a new station going in to uncharted territories.
