The Sherriff was played by Alex Karras played Defensive Tackle for the Detroit Lions for 12 years before getting into acting. He's probably best known for playing the father in the sitcom Webster with his real life wife Susan Clark who played the mother. Susan Clark played Cherry Forever in this movie as well. They also costarred together in the biopic Babe about athlete and Olympian Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
