The reference to Kirk fighting Spock is from the series. Second season Episode 1 Amok Time. It was a Vulcan marriage ritual. Kirk feared that if Spock fought to the death the other guy Stonn would kill Spock. So Kirk came up with a way to make it look like he had died in the fight against Spock. 2. The song Don't You Want Somebody to Love is a song by Jefferson Airplane.
