In my case, I was already a Commonwealth Barrister At Law - interested in practising Law, here in the UK and I soon found out on entering the hallowed circles of the English Bar - "Elocutions Lessons" - were a thing! However, you NEVER admitted you had attended those Lessons - Everyone (Students of the Bar and fully qualified Lawyers/Barristers At Law) all spoke in 'Posh' voices - as though they were born that way.😜😉😉 I witnessed something one day at one of the "Bar Students' Societies" I belonged to. It was an Event, held at one of the "Inns of Court" - Students of the Bar, full fledged Barristers, Judges had been invited. It was after Dinner and we were watching a fascinating and interesting Debate between two White British Men. I'm unsure if they were Students of the Bar or Full blown Barristers At Law. Anyway, those of us in our Society, had been encouraged to attend and watch this Debate! One of the 'Barristers' was CLEARLY winning the argument AND he had an incredible sense of humour! So you can imagine - He was winning the argument, cracking jokes that made everyone laugh! He had the crowd in his hands - as the saying goes. He was very charismatic! His opponent however, took things personally and at one point retorted: "Well I used to know you at University, and you CERTAINLY did NOT speak like THAT, all posh and well spoken. Those Elocution Lessons, you obviously have taken - have clearly done you some good!" YIKES!😵‍💫😳🙆‍♂🥺😳😲😯😕 OMG! You could hear a pin drop! As I said before - Everyone sitting in that Hall knew "Elocution Lessons" were a thing! Practically everyone allegedly took those lessons. 'Oratory' (and being a Wordsmith), was part of your required skill set as a Barrister At Law. However, for some strange reason - You had to speak in the "Queen's English!". So EVERYONE (Allegedly), pretended they spoke posh and even better than our beloved late Queen Elizabeth II herself! (Except for those who REALLY did come from Posh, Aristocratic backgrounds, and did not need "Elocution Lessons"). After he made that comment - .... Well, that was the end of that Debate - The atmosphere changed; everyone was miserable; no one was cackling with laughter any more and no one dare laugh anyway .......It will not surprise you to know that the 'Fun' Debate ended like a lead balloon and not long after that - we all made our way home. Back to this - In all these years - No one has ever noticed me say 'PraYERs', or they just chose to say nothing.🤣😍 Glad to know though. You learn something new everyday. It is good to have a Teachable heart to exist in our world - otherwise you might as well cease to exist. I've learned so much, since I stumbled on SNG's Podcast. The only recommendation I can give is to find a good barber in the States that will travel. You are going to have a hard time finding a barber you like in every city as quickly as you need to find it. I went to college in South Jersey with men from North Jersey and dudes from up North hated how South Jersey/Philly barbers cut. The distance from where the school was to North Jerz was at max an hour 30 to 2 hours. While I'm sure there are amazing barbers in the South Jersey/Philly tri-state area, people are used to what they are used to and styles are different.

Ok let me maybe explain the bite, sip and chew phenomenon. For me I think it’s because as black people, in SA, we have mostly middle and poor class people and our sandwiches are either made from not so fresh bread and are not as juicy as those of affluent people so when you try to chew no so fresh bread with just butter or with butter and peanut butter or with just butter and polony or even cheese it’s dry and not easy to chew and swallow so drinking, mostly hot beverages or cool drink, helps to soften it and make it easier to swallow. During breaks at white schools when the teachers see black kids doing this they call it “making cement” and call them out for it but it’s something that we get taught to do as little kids. We grow out of it eventually as we afford fresh bread and the ingredients for juicy sarmies😂😂😂
