Scylla song scares me, especially the line "Do what it takes to survive" because it could mean 2 things. 1. To Odysseus as to say he told Eurylochus to light up the torches to do what it takes to survive and 2. To tell the crew to do what it takes to survive even though it was hopeless

The look on Casper's face at 17:33 was genuinely one of the funniest things I have ever seen!! Also fun fact, the sailor who stabbed Odysseus was Perimedes. He and Elpenor were the ones who asked what was in the bag in "Keep your friends close" and apparently, Elpenor was his best friend. Jorge posted that tidbit in the chat during the live stream last night, and I just thought it was super cool! Since it hasn't been really brought up. Some fun facts about Scylla. She was originally, depending on the author, a beautiful naiad but was poisoned by someone who was jealous because she rejected them or Circe, again depending on the writer. So her and Odie being on the same page of "people only care about themselves and will betray you, so do what you can to survive" isn't that wild. She's another monster of circumstances not of choice.

In defense of Eurylochus, in Puppeteer i felt he was more telling Odysseus “we lost so many men already, let’s take the ones we know are safe and run while we still can,” while in Scylla Odysseus is ACTIVELY going into a situation where he KNOWS he must sacrifice crew members. Eurylochus wants to hold close the ones he knows they can protect, while Odysseus is throwing men to the wolves to protect himself (and the remaining crew I guess, but at this point his main goal is for himself to get home no matter who he has to sacrifice to do it). Both are flawed in their thinking of course

Odysseus made six men hold torches so they could be the ones to die, as Scylla has six heads. One man for each head. After Ody heard Eurylochus’s secret, he decided to sacrifice him, which is why he told him to hold a torch. Also, Scylla and Odysseus both sing together on the “I” on “we are the same you and I!” Odysseus has really become the Monster!

Eurylochus kinda pisses me off in mutiny bc he proposed the exact same thing back with Circe, abandoning several men to die there and fleeing, but now that Odysseus does it it’s awful and unthinkable? Like, I get the rest being mad but Eurylochus you hypocrite 😂

My interpretation of mutiny is that Eurylochus is trying to absolve himself of his guilt of not listening to Odysseuss and opening the bag. By saying "If you want all the power, you must carry all the blame." He's implying that Odysseuss is the wrongdoer while also trying to convince himself and the crew that he doesn't bear any fault for opening the bag when they were almost home.

6 Torches 6 Sacrifices to Scylla so they may pass without her Destroying them all. And its Scylla Singing not the Sirens she has 6 different heads plus her human body. He also meant for Eurylochus to be one of the 6 Sacrifices after he told him he opened the bag.

The only way to get past Scylla is if all six of her heads are occupied by eating someone. So the cost was that six men had to die for the rest to escape alive.

Just to clarify, Odysseus got stabbed by the crew in the back through his gut. While very painful and can be life threatening, it's not a kill shot. In the small pause before he says " oh my head" it was a time skip where Odysseus woke up bandaged and tied up on the ship. When Eurylochus killed the cattle, he got himself out and is probably in a lot of pain moving, but is also so panicked that adrenaline has more than likely kicked in. Then we hear the thunderclap

Odysseus had Eurylocus light up 6 torches because Scylla has 6 heads. And each head eats one of the men holding the torches. This keeps her occupied so that the boat can escape.

Scylla is talking to Ody. By telling Eurylocus to light the torches, he was sacrificing those men to scylla to pass. One torch for each head of scylla. Scylla is saying her and ody are both monster who do what they must to get by. When scylla talks about betrayal, she is talking to what eurylocus has done and what ody is about to do... clever double.

Scylla was described as having 6 heads on snake like necks. Each head had three rows of sharks teeth. 12 dangling legs and her loins had demon dogs. So very scary.

Maybe feeling too betrayed, too hurt, too angry? Or he doesn't care anymore because all he cares about anymore is going home and seeing Penelope. Six torches for six heads as Scylla has 6 man-eating heads. DANGER MOTIF! I hadn't heard that. Good job! Scylla is in some interpretations a goddess, so that would make sense why she has a choir but as you also said she can harmonise and sing with her other heads.

Oh, Scylla has six monstrous dog heads attached to her legs. Six torches, six men, that's the price to pay Odysseus talked about in Suffering. She was a nymph, and depending on the version, either Circe or Poseidon's wife poisons the water she bathes in cuz their love interests loved Scylla and she becomes a monster

Now that I'm finished I wanna share my interpretation of Scylla, I'm sure by now you've seen the live stream and put together how the 6 Torches are intentional sacrifices. The song is framed like Scylla is singing to Eurylacus at the beginning, but I'm pretty sure she is singing to Odysseus the entire time taunting him comparing him to herself because he is intending from the beginning to sacrifice 6 men to pass Scylla's lair and hiding it from the crew, "leaving them feeling betrayed, breaking the bonds that you've made" ect the lyrics line up perfectly with Odysseus and it makes more sense for her to taunt him then Eurylacus. Especially with how the harmonize in the end after the sacrifice has been made showing that Odysseus is truely now the monster and no better then Scylla.

Like, Eurylochus is talking directly to Odysseus, but tbf Scylla sort of talking about what Eurylochus is feeling at first is a bit confusing without visuals
