A Super Thank You to the Fans – Past, Present and Future
🕑 Added 2019-09-27 15:56:53 +0000 UTCFirst and foremost, this is a one-time thing. We want that to be as clear as possible. Releases after Supergirl will be patron-only as per usual.
That being said, we have decided to release the Supergirl update for free. Patrons and non-patrons alike will have access to the same version of the game when it is updated on September 30th. For the first time in four years, both the patron and public builds will be simultaneously up-to-date on the latest version.
A Thank You to All Our Fans
Never in a million years, let along four, did we think we would get to a point like this. When Smoke and SR7 started up years ago they were down on their luck – having recently lost most of their life savings – and were really just looking for something to distract them from their circumstances at the time.
Four years later, Gunsmoke Games has had over 13,000 unique patrons and tens of thousands of fans play Bend or Break and Something Unlimited. GG has grown to a point where we can actually start expanding and reasonably hiring people to better ourselves and our products. We can see a promising light at the end of the tunnel, albeit a very far and faint light, to one day become a major development studio that creates NSFW and non-NSFW gaming experiences people never thought possible.
This has only been made possible because of the fans, both patron and non-patron alike. So, in an effort to show our thanks rather than just say it, we’ve decided to offer the Supergirl update to everyone for free from Day 1.
We know how much our fans are hotly anticipating Supergirl and Galatea, and we know we’re about to go through a lot of changes and shifts as we near the Rebuild transition, so we figured this would be a great update to do this with that people could really appreciate.
Why Not Remain Free?
You can’t expect someone to love you if you don’t even love yourself. Similarly, you can’t expect people to value what you do if you don’t value it yourself. However, like any reasonably-minded business, we’re always open to new business models and ideas.
Recently, we ran our end of year survey which had a question asking our patrons how they would feel if we made updates completely free. The majority said they would not cancel or even lower their pledges.
With all of that information in mind, this is the conclusion we ultimately came to:
We have much bigger aspirations outside of Patreon. With 20 – 30+ scenes being added each update and over 4 years of content on top of that – providing one of the biggest Western NSFW gaming experiences there currently is – we don’t believe $5 to play the latest update is a big ask, especially when we offer a public build that gets updated too. (I.e. all you have to do if you don’t want to pay is wait.)
We will not devalue our product or any of our products, and we refuse to be ashamed of being a business that’s looking to grow and expand. The only way we can reasonably do that is with funding. Our next major expenditure will most likely be bringing on an animator, but we’re not going to do that until we can offer at least a decent enough salary and take the time to find someone who’ll last and seek to grow with us.
We know the financial side of this equation is really lost on a lot of people who just see the five-figure number, but we’re going to continue doing what we think is best for our company, customers and patrons. And we hope that the financial hit we take from this action isn’t lost on a lot of people, because it’s the only real way as a company we can think to sincerely show our appreciation.
We hope everyone enjoys the Supergirl update and a big thank you to everyone who read this post thoroughly to the end,
Gunsmoke Games

Funny thing, they are probably not that popular just because they are fighting games. The story in both of them, and the execution of said story, is not THAT bad, actually.

Yo it's Monday, where's the Supergirl update at?

The good part about the DMCA was the lessons learned from it and basically getting a "We don't care if you do this, but we need the Injustice name for our game series" sort of approval. The big issue was that SU was ranking better SEO-wise for Injustice than their fighting game series was. Nowadays SR7 and Smoke see it more as a blessing in disguise, but it was definitely a turbulent moment in SU's history.

Firs time I saw this game was when the name was not crossed out yet. I checked it out, made a mental remark "This game have potential, I need to get back to it eventually." Than about a year or a half a yeal later I tried to find it again by its name... but it's dissapeared. Had to dig though internet to find this patreon page. When I did get here and saw the new name, I said to myself : "Looks like someone got copiright strike. Damn!" But what actually made me stay was how GG dealt whit that - a big red cross against copyrighted name and casual "something" slaped on it, as if someone wrote it by had. May a hardship like that never befall on your again, and keep up the good work. P.S. Still waiting on those Lex upgrades...

I just joined & I cant find the download link
Well, I've paid through Patreon before, and I will gladly do so again with money being more regular. But I just wanted to say I appreciate this, and I really think this is a cool move.

Where's the download link?
Locke Kosta
You just download, unzip and run the new version. Your saves will carry over even if you delete the old version from your comp.

The best animator out there for 2d is Sfan (https://www.patreon.com/Sfan). While I would hate to see his attention pulled away from his own Patreon works, his work would be a tremendous addition to SU.

Kind of. In Justice League Unlimited, they had a character that was very much Powergirl-esque called Galatea that was a clone of Supergirl. The game has Galatea, after you fulfill the right tasks to add her to your team.

Keep up the great work guys! I look forward to what you have in store for the future. Also thank you for always doing your best at keeping us all in the loop. It is much appreciated.

Hey! Gunsmoke Games Team! You guys are awesome, from the bottom of my heart, I started followed you since the day you wrote the comic(accidentally found in e-hentai), but I only started to pledge to you on patron recently, in fact, you guys were the first creator on patreon that I pledge (even though it is just 1 dollar, but in my country currency, 1 dollar worth a lot, you could buy a full bowl of noodle with that). So, from the bottom of my heart, You guys are amazing! Keep on the good work ! (But, don't be too hard, okay?)

Great comment! One question though... Does the Canadian Honey Badger apologize for not giving a fuck? Just really curious and had to ask. XD
CanadianHoneyBadger
You guys are awesome. It's pretty crazy when I think back to how small stuff was (I remember being so mad at s7 that I played the game all night trying to build up to sex scenes for a Wank and there were only blow job scenes implemented!) Not sure if that's TMI but whatever, been a supporter from back when the discord was edgy as Fuck, to now when it's cleaned. Thick and thin and what makes me still donate is a couple things. You guys are fairly consistent with content (even before the more planned updates and back when it was whatever whenever). The quality of the art and game almost never drops (the giganta scene on the yacht is the only time I thought quality dropped). Finally though? I never felt you guys were ripping me off or being dickheads with the money. I always felt it was going to either keep you guys in good condition to make good work, or to the product/company. Y'all are great. Keep it up and I bet you can grow even more!
Locke Kosta
Long time to hold a grudge dude.

Look you guys have been doing an amazing job with things and should be proud of what y'all accomplished. I'll continue to pledge what I can no matter your decisions.

I stopped being a fan 2 years ago. I was so eager to donate and support the team. So my dumbass thought it'd be a good idea to recommend allowing Patrons to vote for content like so many other adult games. I was shunned by the fanboys on Discord and trolled by a mod by the name of Gentleman Ghost. I knew then that this wasn't a community I wanted to be part of or support your game. While I appreciate you releasing this update to the public you've lost me as a supporter.
Jadus
Being in that field of marketing job this is a clever move to encourage future non patreons to join later on. Respect. Keep inspiring and encouraging fans to join in :)
Locke Kosta
You just like misquoting people or something? That literally isn't found anywhere in the entire article. You should look into all that hate you're holding onto. It's not healthy. ; )
You guys are the Masahiro Sakurai of the H-Game community <3
"Thanks for supporting us. No more free updates after Supergirl." There is the relevant information we want from updates. No poorly written paragraphs required. Please hire a better copywriter.
Can I just say that in addition to the contributions of the other members, I really appreciate the job you (the communications/pr person) have been doing? You do a far better job interacting with your community than most groups I've observed.
Timeyy
It looks like major digital distribution platforms like Steam are opening up to NSFW games so you're hitting a perfect timing to start transitioning into a legit developing studio. I guess SU being a parody game based on DC characters is not a good candidate to go retail but if you can deliver the same quality with an original IP that would be sweet. And thanks for the early update for us lowly $1 scrubs XD
Gunsmoke Games
We completely understand this. That is why we are diligent on updating the public build as frequently we can without alienating our current supporters. But this update is also for those who contribute in other ways, its just a thank you to everyone!!
Kme026
5 usd might not be that much in the US, but there are countries where it is a bit more than just one coffee :( To give you an example in our country price of one coffe is usually something between 1.5 and 2 dollars. So what I pay for one month is equivalent of what average US dude pays for 2 - 3 months. Just a food for thoughts. That said, thanks for the awesome work...
John Richards
Don't let anyone get you down. You guys are great and don't need to change anything you do
Jakeflado
You guys are amazing and so kind! While I am a patron (and I will strive to continue to be until my dying day), it's nice to see you guys do something so that everyone can enjoy this amazing game!!! 😀
FutaRenamon
