Jean connects with the cosmic power of the Phoenix and places the collar on Bastion, severing his technopathy and restoring the Prime Sentinels' humanity. She then reverses the mutant augmentations that Sinister has made to himself, freeing Cable of his control. Bastion decides to crash Asteroid M into Earth and cause a new extinction event. The U.S. government launches missiles at Asteroid M hoping to destroy it, but instead cause it to plummet. With Xavier's help, Magneto regains consciousness and sends the asteroid back into space. It explodes, leaving most of the X-Men presumed dead. Six months later, Bishop tells Forge that the X-Men are trapped in time: Cyclops and Jean are in 3960 A.D., a desolate future where they encounter Mother Askani and a young Nathan; and Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Xavier, and Magneto are in Ancient Egypt in 3000 B.C. where they meet En Sabah Nur, a young version of Apocalypse. In the present during the mid-credits, Apocalypse visits Genosha and pulls out one of Gambit's playing cards from the wreckage.
