Mining Rig W.I.P.
Hello everyone, I'm starting off November by revealing progress on the much-anticipated MINING RIG. These truly enormous vehicles were key pieces of machinery which made the Mystery Flesh Pit such a lucrative investment for the Anodyne Corporation, mining all sorts of valuable minerals and chemicals from deep within the Flesh Pit. The rig is shown here next to a V.E.E.V, a human figure, and an I.A.V. for scale. As of this writing I've pro...
Limited Edition Patches Are Now Available For Purchase
At 6pm CST there will be a post on the main blog linking to the store page.
Enclosed Trail W.I.P.
Work is progressing on some "photos" of the park's trails/exhibits/etc. I'm mostly happy with the lighting and getting the flesh/structure interface "right", but there's still a lot to do in terms of detail and fine tuning.
Embroidered Patches & Benefactor Surprise Gift
By popular demand, I've had a limited run of these custom Mystery Flesh Pit National Park embroidered patches manufactured. These patches will go up on sale on the main merch site (mfpgiftshop.storenvy.com) sometime later this week, and I will let all of the patrons here know an hour before I make a post on the main blog. Once they go up, there will be only 70 available; when they're gone, they're gone.To the patrons at the Benefactor...
New Post - Meet the Mesogleal Tridecapod
New post up on the blog examining another member of the Parks unique wildlife! These blood-sucking living magnet drills may be found clustered all around sections of the Parks interior electrical grid and are known to cause all sorts of issues to technicians and engineers. But surely such a (relatively) small and minor pest is inconsequential in the greater scheme of things...Psst -- patrons at the Member and Benefactor tiers got to see this a wh...
Podcast interview
I was recently invited to speak a bit about the flesh pit project on the "Solidarity House" podcast. Many of the things we discussed aren't new to fans of the mystery flesh pit, but we do get into themes and inspirations which fans may find interesting.
Scrapped Tour Vehicle Design
This was the first direction I went with for the design of the Tour Vehicles (V.E.E.Vs), basing it heavily upon the existing vehicle architecture I had designed for the ranger vehicles. The thinking was that the elements would most likely have evolved to be similar with tapered wheels, smooth surfaces, and and overall lozenge-shaped profile and three-section body. I even made some solid progress towards realizing it in 3D before I took a step bac...
Trail Tunnel W.I.P.
Just a quick progress snapshot of the enclosed reinforced trail tunnels found throughout the interior of the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park. Having a completed model will allow me to render some "photo" style pieces as well as develop a "Trail Construction Standards" document.
Park Benefactor Surprise W.I.P.
Just a small teaser for a thank-you gift to those at the Park Benefactor tier that I'll be sending out early next month; make sure your shipping address is up to date!
Tridecapod W.I.P. and old Trail Engineer sketch.
Just a quick W.I.P. as I'm painting in the tridecapod creature. Also an old sketch. This was the original pencil sketch for the Trail Engineer piece, including a little diagram of how the stents would work. Looking back at it now I like some of the little details that, for whatever reason, I didn't decide to include in the final design; namely the two round spotlights on the lower part of the helmet, as well as the second handle on the bo...
Early Park Ranger & Signage Sketches
I found an old sketchbook I thought I had lost and it had a few of these sketches in it. As evident in the early scratch-sketch of the ranger, I had originally thought they might be the ones carrying a (much-larger) laser multitool instead of trail engineers. Only after really developing out the Anodyne/NPS relationship did I decide to split their activities. The park signs didn't change much from these initial pencil sketches, with the excep...
WIP wildlife sketch
Some visual exploration for an upcoming creature feature of a named but as-yet unseen wildlife species.
New Tier Ranks
Hello Patrons, As the scope of this project has continued to grow, I've decided to implement a tier system for this Patreon starting Tomorrow, September 1st. What this means for existing patrons: All patrons who currently pledge $1 or more will continue to have access to everything you have already have access to, such as WIP and Behind the scenes content, as well as access to an exclusive patron-only role on the Mystery Flesh Pit Discord. Ne...
W.I.P.: Gumption Tourist Map
Still a lot of polishing and tweaking before it is ready to post, but here's a sneak preview for my patrons. Gumption is the small town just north of the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park, and is a city whose economy, boom and bust was closely tied to the development and tourism of the MFP. This is a sort of tourist/visitors guide cartoon map you'd find in a hotel lobby or restaurant vestibule. Probably made by the Gumption Chamber of Comme...
Welcome new patrons!
First, thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support for this project. The passionate support from super-fans like yourselves continues to motivate me to create more content for this world during the times when I feel burnt out or unsure of which direction to take the MFP. Secondly, in the interest of transparency, new patrons should be aware that I am pretty lousy at patreon. I work a full time job, and most of the time It's all I can do...
New Post!
These scans are some of the first look at a major location within the Mystery Fleshpit National Park - The Intrapark Wellness Resort.
Mystery Flesh Pit content Road Map
Hello!I really don't update this page as often as I should, but my goal moving into the spring and summer is to change that. In the spirit of posting more W.I.P. and behind-the-scenes content, I thought I would post my rough "road map" of future content here to give you an idea of some of the things to expect moving forward, in no particular order:-Design for a tour vehicle/general vehicle platform for navigating the interior of the p...
Gift Gardens Post Card Art
This is the first in a series of Posters/Post Cards that I want to start doing for the MFP. I've been trying to get the style right, and I'm finally happy with this technique, so expect more in the next few months!
New Video Post Up!
This is the first piece of video content I've produced for the MFP project, and I had a lot of fun putting it together. I've always loved the ominous sounds of EAS broadcasts and thought it would only be fitting to mock up one for the Flesh Pit. Enjoy!
New Post Up!
Hi-Res link: https://i.redd.it/17jri9589c061.jpgThis one took way more time than I anticipated; It's difficult to try and capture something like an internal 3D environment without resorting to topography lines or relief shading. If I was going to do it over I'd probably add some "cutoff" lines to indicate intense slope, along with darkening some of the trail lines to give it more depth. Also, while it seems pretty concentrated give...
Sneak Preview/Update
Quick W.I.P. of the park map; it -is- coming, I promise!
Flesh pit AMA on reddit tomorrow evening.
Hello, I'm going to answer the top 3 questions in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/FleshPitNationalPark/comments/jarn0a/first_official_mystery_flesh_pit_ama/tomorrow night, but of course I'll answer some questions here as well exclusively for the Patrons. I also thought I'd share some info about the next few posts I'm working on, as well as the status of the book. Right now, a major piece I'm working on is a very detailed...
