The Current State of Shonen Jump 2018
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gSoooooo this is a video I’ve really wanted to do for a while.Last year I did my “Current State of Shonen Jump video”, and I remember at the time I wanted to try challenge myself with something new, and I thought a video specifically on Jump as a magazine would be different from anything else I'd done before, what I didn't know is that t...
My favourite things Summer 2018
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gIt’s my favourite things Summer 2018!As ever I always really enjoy doing these ones, although this one was a little tricky as it fell right as I went to anime expo and I had to let Seamus take the first editing pass, which honestly kills me a little bit, not because Seamus is a bad editor (hes very very good) but I just really love the editing proc...
Why Tekkonkinkreet is an Amazing Movie
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gThis time we’re talking about the 2006 movie TEKKONKINKREETThis ones been a favorite of mine for quite a while, I bought it like 10 years ago in a run down dvd shop in New York, having no idea what it was or who made it, and boy was that eight dollars well spent.I am literally running out the door to go to Q con in Belfast (If your there message me...
The Existential Horror of Aggretsuko
A new Video just went live on the channel!!!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gThis time we’re talking about Aggretsuko.I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of very long videos lately, and so I wanted to take this opportunity and try and tackle a smaller show with a smaller video, as I don't think a 20+ minute epic would have really been in keeping with the tone of Aggretsuko, and it was really a lot of fun to make, work...
Why You Should Play Yakuza
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gThis time We’re talking about the Yakuza series! I started playing Yakuza years ago on PS3, but I think I really fell in love with them after playing Yakuza 0, and have been an ardent fan of the series ever sense. The most recent game Yakuza 6 marks the last chapter in the story game of Kiryu Kazuma, and so it felt like the right time to do a video...

My Favorite Things Spring 2018
This time we’ve got another seasonal round up video! I really enjoy making these as its a great chance to get a little loose and have more fun with the material, because I don't need to keep building on an underlying theme or narrative. So next up we have the long awaited Hyper Mystery video 2, I know it’s been a little bit of a wait for this one, and that’s partially because we tend to hit stretch goals waaaaay faster than I think we wi...
Mystery April Fools Video is out TOMORROW
Hey guys!A new video will be out tomorrow, and I don't want to say too much, but its umm... we'll say a little different from the usual, but I really hope you enjoy it, just doing the post for it today as I don't want to charge people for three next videos next month. Thanks again for the incredible support!John/SEW
The Junji Ito Collection is Disappointing Garbage
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gThis time we're talking about the Junji Ito Collection. This was kind of a tough video to make, as I really wanted this show to be good, but from episode one the overall lack of quality was apparent, and it just retained so little of the appeal of the manga. I much prefer to make videos about things I actually like, and I get kind of down when I s...

The Impact of Dragon Ball Z: The Series That Changed Everything
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gThis ones been a long time coming, but it's finally time to talk about Dragon Ball Z.I've spent nearly an entire month working on this video, which is the longest I've taken since starting the channel, so first off allow me to apologize with the delay, it was a video that needed many many rewrites and re edits before it started feeling ri...
My Favorite Things 2017
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gApologies about the delay in this one, this was actually the first video I’ve ever used an editor for, and they did a great job, but after getting the finished product back I just felt it didn’t really “feel” like a video I would make, so I had to go back an re edit large swathes of it, which ended up pushing back the upload date by about a w...
Why You Should Watch/ Read Jojos Bizarre Adventure Part 4
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gI put everything I had into this one, I really hope you enjoy.I wanted to end the year with something special, and Part 4 has been my most requested video since I posted the part 3 video last year.Part 4 is my overall favorite jojo series, There’s individual aspects I like better from other series, like Jolyne from part 6 (my favourite protagonist)...
What Shonen Jump Was Like 30 Years Ago
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gIts on what Shonen Jump was like 30 years ago. This was a really fun video to do, as its a period in Jump that had a lot of influence on modern Shonen, but at the same time feels completely different.Doing videos on manga specifically is always tricky, because you need to be careful to animate the pages in a way that stays interesting to look at and b...
The Stylistic Influences of Cuphead
A new video just went live on the channel!I don't talk about video games on the channel that often, mainly because I'm still getting my head around the best setup/ settings for capturing footage, but I had to talk about Cuphead. It’s a game I knew I was gonna have some interest in but I really didn’t expect it to become one of my favorites of the year like it has, and the more research into it I did cooler I thought it was.As ever I c...
Why You Should Watch Made in Abyss
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gI feel like this video could have been twice as long and I still wouldn't have been able to cover everything in this show, which feels wierd to say about a 13 episode series. I cut out a HUGE amount out of it just to make it watchable which was a real challenge, in particular I would have liked to talk more about the Character Designs, I think th...

A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9gThis time we're talking about one of my favorite films ever, The Shining! This is actually the first time I've dedicated a full video to a live action movie, I've wanted to try it out for a while because it seemed like an interesting new challenge, and with October coming up I thought the time seemed right.I had to learn a lot about the el...
Why You Should Watch Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor
A new video just went live on the channel! This time we're talking about Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor!I've been wanting to do a video about this one since I saw it early last year, its one of those series with a really hardcore following but not a whole not of main stream notoriety, so I'm hoping I can shine a spot light on it a little with this video.I think one of the things I enjoy most about making videos like this is it always gives m...
What Makes a Hero Feel Real?
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9g/videosFor a while now I've really wanted to do a follow up to my video "What Makes a villain feel real?" but it was pretty difficult to know how to go about it, whether to concentrate on "protagonist" or "hero", but in the end I felt like doing a video on just a protagonist would be too broad and non specific because id e...
Why Redline is an Amazing Movie
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9g/videosSo this time we're covering a favorite movie of mine: REDLINEThis was a really fun video to edit, mainly down how beautiful Redline is, but I have to admit, I really feel like I need more practice covering movies as opposed to series, if there's a problem with this video I feel like I'm using the same kind of language to discuss ci...

The Fall of The Simpsons: How it Happened
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9g/videosIts finally time for the hyper mystery video, and it is: THE FALL OF THE SIMPSONS HOW IT HAPPENED.This is kind of a spiritual follow up to my fall of Bleach video, I've had the idea in mind since not long after finishing that one, and I felt like it would be a decent challenge, considering its pretty different to anything I've done bef...
In Defense of the Elevator Scene from Evangelion
A new video just went live on the channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9g/videosThis week we're talking about one of my joint favorite anime (alongside Yu Yu Hakusho) Neon Genesis Evangelion!Generally Eva is a really difficult topic to cover, not only is it a very polarizing show, but there's also a very high likely hood that WHAT EVER you say, its already been said somewhere else, in fact I would bet that Eva is ...
