[Episode] Lupin III: The Best Looking 3D Anime Ever | Video Essay

Been looking to cover this one ever since I made the Earwig video. I have so much to say, most of them can't even fit into the video itself. Parts like explaining each character's origin, the inspirations behind them, etc, have to be cut to keep the video on pace.Maybe one day I'll make another video on how the director of this film, who also directed Stand By Me Doraemon, is quickly becoming Japan's leading 3DCG director. But for...

Woohoo, 100 episodes!Technically we've made way more than 100 videos. But we didn't count the ones like our video on Minecraft, or the various other April Fool's videos. In any case, what a journey! Thank you for supporting us for so long!

It's snowing outside. Mariah Carey took over the grocery stores again. It's the holiday season. Hope you are having a great December!CHANNEL UPDATENew video is being edited but progress is slow. [Weekly Update] Nov 30, 2022

Phew, was very much under the weather in the past few days. Sorry for taking this long to give you an update. I'm feeling better now!CHANNEL UPDATEHope you enjoy our latest video on Chinese Shlockbusters! I had a blast going through these movies. Even watching the lazy sleazy copycat movie that is Huge Shark, I still find myself enjoying its execution (at times, more than The Shallows). Hope you have a chance to give some of them a watch, as ...

[Episode] The Insane World of Chinese Shlockbusters | Video Essay

A while back, a patron brought up the topic of Chinese web movies in our Discord server, and I've been in the rabbit hole ever since. I usually enjoy watching movies for work, but never to this degree. The fact that I can just sit there and enjoy the garbage fire without having to take notes is a pleasant experience, too. Maybe that's why these movies are so popular: You just don't need to pay attention to it.If you enjoy B movies as ...

[Weekly Update] November 20th, 2022

We shot a martial arts film early summer, and it took us this long to finish a rough cut. My ambition to make every YouTube video as good as possible has eaten into my personal time a lot. I think that's the source of my burn out.Still, I appreciate your support and enjoyed doing YouTube way more than most other jobs I've done. Thank you for making this possible!CHANNEL UPDATEOur next video on Chinese wen movies is currently being edited....

[Script Preview] Episode 99 - Chinese Web Movies

It's a shame I found so many Chinese web movies but only have so much time to talk about just a few of them. Not sure if everyone is as excited about these movies as I am. If you want more recommendations, let me know.No notes this time, since these really aren't the kind of movies you want to take notes off.Video is being edited as we speak. Should be out in a few days!

[Weekly Update] Nov 16, 2022

With Twitter becoming a circus, I ask my friend where I should migrate to, so I can keep in contact with fans outside of Patreon and YouTube.I thought about moving to TikTok, but I really don't wanna do even more videos, let alone vertical ones.So I said "maybe I should start an OnlyFans". But like, a SFW one.And it honestly wasn't even a bad idea.CHANNEL UPDATEHope you enjoy our Jet Li Retrospective! Patreon voted videos generall...

[Episode] Jet Li: the Actor, the Star, the Martial Artist | Video Essay

Surprisingly, this video didn't take very long at all. I guess after all these years, I still remember most Jet Li movies vivid enough to not have to rewatch them. That didsn't stop me from going back and enjoying them, though. I mean, can you say no to a chance to rewatch Kiss of the Dragon?Anyway, hope you like this brief look at Jet Li's career. I didn't include all or even most of the movie, and the video is already on the lon...

[Weekly Update] Nov 6, 2022

Daylight saving is stupid.I wish I have a degree in political science, so I can run for office to abolish it. That's how dumb it is. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.CHANNEL UPDATECurrently working on our Jet Li episode. As expected, there is a lot of ground to cover, so I have to skim over a lot of details. maybe in the future I'll go into more specifics, like talking about Jet Li's fascinatingly cheesy English-language films. We are ...

Happy Halloween! Are you going to watch a horror movie tonight? I think I'm going to rewatch The Thing. It's always a good time to rewatch The Thing.CHANNEL UPDATEHope you enjoy our last video recommending 3 movies from 3 different countries. It was meant to be a smaller video, giving me more time to prepare for our Jet Li retrospective. But I ended up watching 7 horror movies just to pick out 3, and it took some time.Fun fact, I almost wa...

[Episode] 3 Horror Movies From 3 Countries | Video Essay

Here is our Halloween episode, 3 foreign horror films you probably haven't heard of. ItTalking about these films without spoiler while keeping it interesting is surprisingly difficult. Hopefully I did a good enough job at presenting these films! Enjoy, and let me know what you think of these movies!

[Weekly Update] Oct 23, 2022

It's almost Halloween! Although it's pretty much only a North American thing, the season itself is still really fun. Autumn festivals are pretty common around the world. I hope you are having a great time!WEEKLY UPDATEOur next video is a little behind schedule. I was looking through hidden horror gems from around the world, and sadly not every movie is good enough to be recommended. I was genuinely disappointed by Seoul Station.Anyway, if...

Apparently Natalie Portman's biceps in Thor 4 are CG enhanced.Oh well at least Tessa Thompson is jacked.CHANNEL UPDATEAfter over a month of work, we finally complete our two parter series on Jackie Chan's recent career. [Episode] Jackie Chan's Recent (Bad) Movies - Part 2

This was quite an undertaking. But boy, it was a journey I won't forget any time soon. The realization that Jackie Chan isn't bad, he's just fighting against his younger self hits me pretty hard.Hopefully now that people no longer have set expectations about him, he can make an epic come back soon.

[Weekly Update] Oct 9, 2022

[Poll] Who's the next martial art star we should cover?

Alright, we have enough to Jackie Chan, I'm sure. So who's the next one we should talk about?Should it be Donnie Yen, who struggled for relevancy for most of his life before hitting it big?Or Cynthia Rothrock, one of the only non-Asian martial artists who made it big in Hong Kong?Or Jet Li, the last of the trinity we haven't dedicated a video on?Cast your vote below! As always, you can choose more than one options!

[Weekly Update] Oct 3, 2022

IMPORTANT!Patreon now offers a new billing option. We can bill you on the day you join and the same date monthly (instead of charging first day of each month). I'm thinking of changing to that, as it seems a bit more fair. However, due to our somewhat erratic upload schedule, it's possible for a patron to miss out on a bonus video. If we upload one early last month and upload late this month, there may be a 32 day gap in between uploads.In...

[Episode] Jackie Chan's Recent (Bad) Movies - Part 1

Yeah, Jackie is old.At this point, I think most filmgoers just kinda ignore Jackie Chan. He already has an excellent filmography and he has nothing left to prove. He can have fun and do whatever he wants. But here's the thing, what DOES he want? Surely, not doing the same old thing he's been doing his entire life. I got curious, and want to find out.

[Weekly Update] September 26, 2022

This is going to be a smallest update, because I'm currently racing against a deadline, with 2 videos in the pipeline before the end of the month.CHANNEL UPDATEDue to the length, our next video on Jackie Chan's recent movies will be split into two parts. In hindsight, it should've been obvious that I can't review 8 movies in just 10 minutes. So I'm Kill Bill'ing this.Even with the split, I still don't have a lot of tim...

[Episode] How to Get Into Foreign Cinema | Video Essay

Happy 4th year anniversary, everyone. What started as a small project to distract me while I was trying to find a job ended up becoming my job. Not complaining, because this is one of the best thing I can think of to do for a living. And you all make this possible, literally.A lot of viewers ask me for a Letterboxd. But working on this channel means I don't really have time or much motivation to keep another film related personal blog. So, her...

[Weekly Update] Sept. 11, 2022

I watched RRR over the course of 3 days because I have to constantly pay close attention, pause, and take notes. It has been a week and I'm still exhausted from this movie.Phew.CHANNEL UPDATEHope you enjoyed our video on RRR. [Episode] The Importance of RRR | Video Essay

Here it is, the video about RRR. This is probably the most requested movie on our channel ever. A lot of Indian viewers also want me to bash it. I guess being a fellow Asian, everyone wanted me to view it with a critical lens, or provide a voice different from Western critics. There are a few things I don't like about the film, but many of them minor. Some of them, however, are related to the political controversies surrounding the film. And t...

[Episode] Mothra Trilogy: Making a Children's Film | Video Essay

Here it is, the video voted by you! Sorry for taking so long to get around to this.I don't think it's too controversial to say that the Mothra Heisei trilogy just isn't very good. Most reviews either point to its simplistic plots as the main flaw, or blame it on the fact that the series are aimed at kids. But there are plenty of classic films there are aimed at kids and loved by everyone. So what's up with that?

[Weekly Update] August 22, 2022

We are still one week behind our schedule. Hopefully things will go back to normal soon. In the meantime, what movies have you watched recently?CHANNEL UPDATEOur video on the Mothra trilogy is currently being edited. Still, watchin...
