Both feet complete!
So tweaked and tested. Now running on dual Ninjaflex toothed belts (7mm width, 5mm pitch). This gives loads of torque and extra tension but won't be able to test in anger until I get the body assembled and some drive electronics. Think I'm going to get hold of a sabertooth controller to try it. I'll keep a log of the electronic journey but obviously there's loads of options on Astromech and the web. The drive is free and smooth, o...
Drive Systems a go go...
Printed and tested, based around the e100 razor motor. I'll do the instructions but the files are shared in the early bird Patreon share. I'll publish them to the public folder in a few weeks! Happy Printing... Mike...
Drive belt test mk2
The next test is dual thin toothed belts. From the initial tests these worked well. Here goes.
A good weekend
So this weekend has been all about the drive system. 4 weeks of designing the outerfoot mechanism and so much to think about. The 2-3-2 mechanism which will come later. The cable routing. The drive belts, the omniwheels, the leg bolt. Strength, resilience the list is endless. Added to this getting the prints and orientation correct for strength. Anyhow, all this I've done and the result is pleasing, very happy so far. Powered up the motor Sun...
The first test of the drive mechanism.
Printed most of the outer foot frame and drive mechanism. Frame is really strong (used as a 'roller skate' with my 200lbs on one foot! Solid). Drive belt and gear need a redesign. I made the belt too thick and there was too much friction. Also the drive gear needs a screw / nut to really grip to the motor. So just printing version 2. Love it!
Getting close to the first test.
Omniwheels completed (and works). Drive wheel and tyre printed (very happy). Frame for motor also complete. Just got to finish the frame design and assemble. Excited.
Drive system is moving along nicely...
For me, this is the most important bit. I've based this on a 12v Razer Scooter motor. It is a belt drive with an omniwheel at the rear, this will allow the 2-3-2 mechanism which Iwill probably develop once I've done the basic droid. (along with arm options and a load of stuff). Again all designed for a standard 200 x 200 bed. The drive and outer feet will take a little longer as it's a critical part. For those who are Patreons, there&...
The Drive System continues
Test print of drive gears, tyre, pulley and belt. All looks good. Using Bridge Nylon (Taulman) and Ninjaflex. Whilst the belt seems a little slippy on the print, I need to test once assembled. I've made the pulleys and drive modular so I can change the belt and pulleys if I need to go to a toothed belt or chain (but chain isn't good as it's variable what people can get hold of in countries). Looking good and feeling confident so far.....
So it begins..
We are testing ninjaflex. This is the first part of the drive mechanism. Want to test a ninjaflex tyre for the drive wheel.
Outer foot... and drive !?£!
Decided that we will now embark on the most challenging of the design, the outer foot and drive mechanism.....
Dome instructions published
All files and instructions are now published in the public share folder. Enjoy! Next we have centre leg and frame (fixed) and outer feet and drive mechanism (That's the one I've been looking forward to). I've got NinjaFlex at the ready....
Version 2 dome finished
All done, we've got all the parts to completely finish the CSR accurate dome. No supports needed for the main dome, all supports incorporated in the design. 2 versions for larger and smaller beds. All panels recessed so the panels can be 4mm thick and much easier to print on there end (which improves the resolution). Most parts print nicely at .3 layer for speed. Both rings have dovetail joints and all fitted together with 4mm bolts / nuts wh...
Final dome bits.
So the challenge for this week is to finish the dome parts. I've done the holoprojectors, radar eye is dome but not uploaded. Just got the logic lights abs psi. I'll make the whole thing teeces compatible. Once the dome is done,it's the centre leg and mount, followed by the outer door and battery shells Then we circle around and start on the fixings. Hey ho, still a bit to do but we're getting there.
This morning has been mostly about holoprojectors
So a bit of a design morning. The holoprojectors need designing. One of my favorite prints and I don't know why, they come out nice and easy to print. The holder needs adjusting to take account of the thicker skins and I've added a couple of screw holes for those who aren't gluing. Will need a small hole drilling in the dome for the screw tap but should be easy. Anyhow, will be uploaded in the dome section on the early bird Patreon sh...
Smaller cut dome now available!
I've finished the smaller cut dome for smaller print beds if the 200 cut is a little too large. Full CSR spec, all panels available. I'm publishing the lower ring very soon but this will get you started :-) As always, should print fine at .3 layer with 10 - 20 percent infill. This is currently published in the Patreon early bird share. Enjoy printing :-)
Added the upper ring for the v2 dome!
Printing section 5 of the 6 base sections. I've also added the upper ring print to the Patreon share. Just the lower ring to add, then I'll do the radar eye, holoprojectors etc. Also I need to add a smaller cut version as this one works for the Prusa i3 and larger print bed machines but not on the smaller bed printers. Happy printing!
Full Scale Dome test published
OK, I've just dropped the first design for the full scale dome into the early bird Patreon share (no instructions at this stage but will follow). This is a large print and I've only printed a couple of parts myself so far, so this is for early testers only :-). The design has removable supports so no supports needed generated by the slicer. It also is designed for .3 layer height for speed, full CSR size / spec. Panels have holes for 4mm ...
First spray of primer..
Lovely day, spent it in the garden giving ver 2 body a spray of primer. Still needs sanding but delighted with the initial results.
Dome version 2 is coming
Version 2 of the dome is underway, full CSR spec, built in supports and easy to print. First version will be for those with 200x200x200 build volume, 6 parts to the main dome and then 2 for the pie completes the panel-less dome....
Modified Centre Foot released
After printing and testing I've modified the Centre Foot Omniwheel and Frame. Firstly I've offset the ominwheels with a single modified frame which can be added if you've already printed and assembled. Secondly I've modified the frame for strength. The original was extremely strong but I want to make this bomb proof! So I've added 6mm nut holes on the inside, so a threaded bar can be screwed in and outer nuts fitted for a very...
No support needed
The center foot files have been tested, designed with no support needed, 2 prints for the main shell and they've come out perfectly!
OmniWheel design
I'm just revising the Omniwheel design. The four wheels offset leaves a gap which makes a noise. I'm creating two pieces to offset the wheels so the gap is removed. More information soon but wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the revision.
How do I recognise you?
Amazed by the support so far and I'm wondering with how to share everything free and open whilst really thanking those who contribute to the reprints and failed designs (currently reprinting the latest design for feet). Soooo.. everything I design is free and open (on principle). I've added a couple of tiers where I can recognise those who contribute to help fund the projects. Named supporters in the instructions, printed usernames on the...
Modified Centre Foot files this morning.
Updated the v2 Centre Foot module STL files just now, so please download again if you managed to get a copy last night. Instructions also uploaded so it's now a complete model! Have fun!
Complete Centre Foot, skin, frame and wheels published.
All STLs are available for early test in the Patreon share. I've also created the instructions which are available in both the Patreon Share and the Public Share. Take a look, there's the hardware needed also listed in the instructions. Happy printing!!!
Centre Foot, Frame & Omniwheel on Patreon share
Good day for designing. Here's the Centre Foot, frame and the Omniwheels.. All published on the Patreon Share. I may add some strengthening for the foot shell but looks good so far! Enjoy.Mike,
Patreon Share, a reminder
Hi, don't forget, as Patreons you do get early access to designs on the Patreon share. Here's the link! https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjIlFUf9uEzogcQlHKmwWloq02j7AQ I do want to keep sharing everything openly but also want to recognise those that are helping to fund my projects and designs so the early access is an obvious first benefit. I'll try to come up with some other exclusive stuff for you all as I really appreciate the support for al th...
Omniwheels are here for the centre foot.
OK, printed, altered, tested, reprinted and I'm happy to share with the lovely early birds Patreons (will share openly in the next couple of weeks). These are two frame parts, a wheel and an end piece. They stack at an offset, so you can make as long a wheel as you want. I've printed the frame in ABS and the Wheels in Taulman Nylon Bridge (wow is that a strong and hard wearing material!). 3mm rods are needed for the wheels, (33mm long), 2...
A little test...
I'm just printed a test Omniwheel, these stack to give a solid and mobile centre leg. Might not work but I'm very hopeful. The wheels I'm printing with Nylon Bridge Taulman alloy so should be very robust. The frame is ABS. 6mm bearing in the centre.Let's see...
